Magdalena de Arriba receives a Prize in the Art + Science contest of Promega

Magdalena de Arriba, PhD student in the Chlamydia research group at the Institute of Veterinary Pathology, has been awarded Second Place in the 2025 Art+Science Contest with her artwork “Infectious Fireworks.”  The award ceremony took place at the grand opening of the Promega Art+Science exhibition at Altes Bad Pfäfers, a UNESCO-protected historical site, alongside Martin Oeggerli’s exhibition “The Secret Gardens of Plant E.”

Magdalena’s piece, “Infectious Fireworks", vividly captures the microscopic battle between antibiotic-resistant and antibiotic-susceptible strains of Chlamydia suis strains. Beyond its striking visual impact, the work underscores the urgency of antimicrobial resistance research and highlights the hidden complexity of bacterial evolution. Congratulations!

Everyone is welcome to visit the joint exhibition, open until October 5, 2025, to experience the unique connection between art and science.
